DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to:
Customer Excellence & Leadership
Champion a culture of service excellence by delivering professional, responsive, and solutions-driven support to customers and internal stakeholders
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians
Ensure all repairs and maintenance meet or exceed customer specifications and industry standards
Address escalated technical queries and provide expert troubleshooting support
Technical Operations & Oversight
Oversee and execute advanced diagnostics, fault-finding, and repairs on refrigerated containers (major and minor mechanical/electrical damages)
Ensure repairs are conducted strictly in accordance with company SOPs and manufacturer specifications
Review and allocate job cards in collaboration with the Reefer Supervisor / Controller
Determine required materials, consumables, and parts for efficient job completion
Conduct and supervise Pre-Trip Inspections (PTIs) in line with customer and industry requirements
Lead and attend to mechanical callouts, ensuring prompt resolution
Ensure that production targets and KPI`S are met
Monitor and execute approved work within the agreed timeframes
Submission of warranties for the different OEM`S
Manage special booking requests
Planning of subcontractor workload
Comply with safe refrigerant practice
Monitor staff production
The ability to work with internal and external customer systems
Inventory management together with storeman
Ensure all completed work undergoes stringent Quality Control checks prior to sign-off
Monitor and ensure compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and all depot safety standards
Report system malfunctions and operational concerns to the Operations Manager and ensure proper logging within the Depot Management System
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the depot
REQUIREMENTS
We invite applications from candidates who meet the following minimum criteria:
Qualification:
Matric.
N4 / N5 Trade Certificate or Diploma in Electrical or Refrigeration
Recognised accreditation on refrigerated container equipment (e.g., Carrier, Thermo King, Daikin, Star Cool, etc.)
Trade Test (advantageous)
Safe Gas Handling Certificate
Experience:
5-7 years’ experience in refrigerated container repairs and maintenance
Proven experience in advanced fault diagnostics and major component repairs
Supervisory or team leadership experience
Required skills:
Strong leadership and mentoring capability
Target and deadline driven
Advanced technical troubleshooting skills
Ability to work effectively under pressure in a high-risk, fast paced operational environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
High attention to detail and quality standards
Valid driver’s license
Willingness to work shifts, standby, or overtime when required
