Go Green Week at Grindrod Logistics: Moving with Purpose Beyond the Cargo

At Grindrod Logistics, we understand that the future of logistics doesn’t just depend on what we move — but how we move it. As a business rooted in supply chain infrastructure and mobility, we are directly tied to the environments, communities, and ecosystems we serve. That’s why sustainability isn’t just a CSR initiative for us — it’s part of our operational integrity.
Last week, we proudly hosted Go Green Week 2025 across all national sites — a hands-on internal campaign designed to promote environmental awareness, educate our teams, and embed green thinking into the day-to-day culture of GLO.
Why We Care
Inland logistics isn’t exempt from environmental responsibility — it’s at the centre of it. Our operations impact the land, air, and communities we traverse. As custodians of these spaces, we have both an opportunity and a duty to mitigate our footprint and lead by example.
Go Green Week is our way of reinforcing this duty — not through slogans, but through meaningful, team-led action.
Site-Driven Sustainability: Tailored Initiatives That Matter
Rather than take a one-size-fits-all approach, each of our national sites was empowered to select and implement sustainability initiatives best suited to their local needs and capacities. This approach not only fostered ownership and creativity but ensured relevance and practicality at each location.
Highlights from our teams included:
Plant Donations & Sustainable Gardening
In collaboration with local partners like Daisy’s & Dreams Nursery in Bluff, employees received plants and trees, along with practical gardening knowledge. Some sites went further by planting seedlings and building sustainable planters from recycled materials — growing both greenery and engagement.

Spill Response Training & Recycling
Preparedness saves ecosystems. Our trained spill response teams facilitated workshops on how to act fast and responsibly in the event of a hazardous material spill — because environmental safety starts with knowledge. Sites adopted and expanded waste segregation practices for steel, plastics, paper, and other materials — driving awareness around circularity and reducing landfill contributions.

Depot Clean-Ups
Teams rolled up their sleeves to remove waste from key operational areas, improving not just environmental hygiene but also team pride and site presentation.
From One Week to an Ongoing Ethos
While Go Green Week was a dedicated campaign, the impact doesn’t end on Friday. Our goal is to build a culture of environmental stewardship that continues to grow through policies, training, and grassroots initiatives.
Our people are not just employees — they’re environmental custodians, innovators, and collaborators in building a sustainable logistics network that South Africa (and the planet) can be proud of.
We’re proud of the energy, creativity, and collaboration our teams brought to Go Green Week. These moments remind us that every effort counts — and that when we act with purpose, we move more than goods… we move forward, together.
